The Hon. Ed Fast issued the following statement today on the election of Andrew Scheer as the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada:

“Today, in an historic election, the members of the Conservative Party of Canada chose Andrew Scheer to lead our party and to become Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition in the House of Commons.

“I welcome the outcome and look forward to working with Andrew to expose the deeply-flawed policies of Justin Trudeau’s government.

“I am also pleased that Andrew has promised to promote and protect the interests of Canada’s dairy, chicken, turkey and egg industries, industries that play a major role in Abbotsford’s economic prosperity.

“Mr. Scheer inherits a strong and united party and a Conservative caucus that is ready and able to hold the Liberal government to account for its failed economic policies and lack of coherent approach in following through on Canada’s international commitments.

“The election of Andrew Scheer as our new leader opens a whole new chapter in the history of the Conservative Party of Canada, and I look forward to playing a constructive role in that story.”
