Press Release: Justin Trudeau’s Cover-up Budget
March 21, 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON
Today, the Hon. Ed. Fast, Member of Parliament for Abbotsford, responded to Justin Trudeau’s attempt to bury the SNC-Lavalin scandal with $41 billion in new government spending.“Justin Trudeau thinks he can distract Canadians with their own money,” said Fast. “He shut down the Justice Committee’s investigation into the scandal, and he refuses to let Jody Wilson-Raybould speak. The recent federal budget cannot be taken seriously. It is nothing more than a cynical election year cover-up.”Yesterday, Celina Caesar-Chavannes, MP for Whitby joined an ever-growing list of Liberals to quit over the SNC-Lavalin scandal. Today, Justin Trudeau’s former top minister Jane Philpott affirmed what Canadians already know: “There’s much more to the story that needs to be told.”“Canadians expect better. Canadians deserve answers,” said Fast. “My Conservative colleagues and I are doing everything we can to hold Justin Trudeau to account and bring the truth to light.”The Trudeau government has continued to shut down all attempts to shed more light on allegations that Justin Trudeau interfered in the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin on serious corruption charges. Conservative MPs have accused the Liberal government of using a big spending budget to distract Canadians’ attention from the scandal.“Justin Trudeau promised that the budget would be balanced in 2019,” said Fast. “Instead, he is borrowing another $20 billion to dole out goodies – breaking a promise he made in the last election to give himself an advantage in the next one. Canadians won’t be fooled again. Mr. Trudeau’s corrupt government needs to be defeated.”
